1    The meeting stood for a moments silence in memory of Don Pile who had contributed so much to the Village and Bowling in particular.

2    APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE

There were no apologies

3    DECLARATION OF INTEREST

There were no declarations of interest.

4    MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING

The Minutes of the meeting held on the 8 October 2007 having been circulated were taken as read and RESOLVED they be confirmed as a correct record.

5    MATTERS ARISING FROM THE PREVIOUS MINUTES

There was no progress on the delayed light switch suggested for outside the Sports Association Pavilion.

6    CLUB REPORTS

a.    Scouts

Julie Downes gave her usual comprehensive report which included news of the kitchen window being smashed which had been reported to the Police. There were 10 in Scouts, 15 Cubs and 16 Beavers but no explorers. There was a need for new leaders in order to satisfy the demand from youngsters. The bag pack at Asda had realised £501 and the new kitchen alterations and painting could now proceed. The District Camp would be held at Bramham in July wit a BBQ around that time too. There was a need for suitable tables and chairs for the Scout hut

b.    Bowling Club

The Club had started bowling and the greens were playing very well. Windows had been repaired and the toilet block was now operating properly. The Club was in a healthy state and there were 5 new members. There was a worry with junior members and it was suggested that separate times for them might be organised.

c.    Cricket Club

Pitch preparation was underway despite poor weather. The garage doors had been repaired and benches were kept inside helping to discourage drinking outside by youths. Some new players had been recruited and the Race Night produced a surplus of £400. It was hoped that sponsorship might be forthcoming from the Jina Indian Restaurant

d.    Tennis Club

The men’s team had recorded a reasonably successful season but the coaching was disappointing. The Primary School had used the courts and this was very successful and will be repeated. Some equipment had also been provided for the school. New members were obviously welcome and Councillor Hall offered to highlight the facilities in the Forum newsletter.
A letter of the thanks had been received from Julian Kelly in relation to the grant provided by the Parish Council and advising of their partnership with the School and provision of Tennis Training Camps

e.     Football Club

The under 17 team had finished as runners up but the boys would now be leaving school and were too old so there were doubts on the under 18 side. The goal posts and nets were in need of some repair but otherwise the Club was in a sound financial position. The adult team had enjoyed a good season and a primary school match had been played on the ground which had also hosted the Chapel Allerton Church Team.

7    ANY OTHER BUSINESS

There was a gap in the fence leading from the car park to football field due to the felling of the conifers. The new fencing for the tennis club was almost complete.

There was a general discussion in relation to young people and what could be done to occupy their time and this touched upon the use of the School field.

There was also interest expressed in a Sports Association Sports Day for the village children which received favourable comment.

8    DATE OF NEXT MEETINGMonday 13 October 2008 at 7.30 pm

9    There being no further business the Chairman closed the meeting at 8.20 pm
